If the thought of sitting in a dental chair makes your stomach flip, you’re in very good company. Dental anxiety is one of the most common concerns we hear from patients — and honestly, it’s one of the things we care most about addressing.
We want you to know something important: there is no judgment here. Whether you haven’t been to the dentist in two years or twenty, whether you’re nervous about pain or just the sounds and smells — your feelings are valid, and we’re here to work with you, not against you.
Why Dental Anxiety Is So Common
Dental anxiety can come from all kinds of places. Maybe you had a tough experience as a kid. Maybe you feel out of control when you’re in the chair. Maybe it’s the anticipation — not knowing exactly what’s coming — that gets to you most. Whatever the reason, you’re far from alone. Studies suggest that up to 36% of people experience some level of dental fear, and about 12% have severe anxiety.
The good news? Modern dentistry has come a long way, and so has our understanding of how to make appointments genuinely comfortable.
What We Do to Help
Here’s how we work to make your visit as easy as possible:
We listen first. Before anything else, we want to hear from you. Tell us what makes you nervous. Tell us what’s happened before. The more we know, the better we can tailor your experience.
You’re always in control. We use a simple “stop signal” — usually raising your hand — so you can pause the appointment at any time, no questions asked. Knowing you have that control can make a big difference.
We explain everything as we go. No surprises. We’ll walk you through what we’re doing before we do it, so you’re never left wondering what’s coming next.
We go at your pace. There’s no rush. If you need a moment, we take a moment.
Comfort options are available. From numbing gel before any injection, to blankets, to music during your appointment — just ask. We also offer sedation options for patients who need a little extra help relaxing. We’re happy to talk through what might work best for you.
A Few Tips Before Your Visit
If you’re feeling anxious ahead of your appointment, here are a few things that can help:
- Tell us ahead of time. Call or send us a message before you come in. We can prepare the team and make sure your appointment starts on the right foot.
- Schedule wisely. Pick a time when you’re less likely to feel rushed — a mid-morning slot is often less stressful than a lunchtime appointment squeezed into a busy day.
- Bring a support person. You’re welcome to have someone come with you.
The Most Important Step: Showing Up
We know that anxiety can make it tempting to keep postponing. But skipping dental care often leads to bigger problems down the road — and bigger problems can feel even more overwhelming. Regular visits actually make things easier over time, not harder.
Our goal is simple: to help you get the care you need while feeling as comfortable as possible. We’re a team of real people who genuinely want to make this work for you.
If you’ve been putting off a visit because of anxiety, please reach out. Let’s have a conversation before you even step through the door. We’d love to help you take that first step.
Have questions or want to talk through your concerns before booking? Give us a call or send us a message — we’re always happy to chat.
