Here at Arthur & Arthur Dentistry, we are proud to offer dental implants and restorations so that you can be proud of your smile. Implants are a great option for a missing tooth or teeth. The process of getting an implant is a multi-step process that can take several months to allow for proper healing, but once healed it allows for a fantastic result!!
A CBCT is needed to endure adequate bone support for the implant. Once verified, the doctor will review and plan the exact size implant screw that is needed. You then return for the implant placement, which is where the implant is placed down into the bone. The implant screw will then take 3-4 months to osseointegrate (fancy word for fuse) to the bone. During this stage it is covered up by the soft tissue (gums). After the 3-4 month healing time, the patient returns for the screw to be uncovered and a healing abutment is placed, which stays in place for about 6 weeks. This allows the gums to heal around the healing abutment so that the final result will be the most esthetic possible outcome. After the 6 weeks has passed, the patient returns for a digital scan of the tissue, and that scan is sent to the lab so that the lab can fabricate a crown (the actual tooth part) that sits on top of the dental implant screw!
Again – it is a process, but typically has a fantastic, beautiful, and long lasting outcome!
